Liman-Sen threatens strikes at Girne and Mağusa ports

Liman-Sen, a union affiliated with the Hür-İş Federation, has announced it will exercise its legal right to strike and take action at the Girne and Mağusa ports if demands are not met. The union claims that a collective bargaining agreement covering 180 workers, which was valid from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2026, has been unlawfully halted after partial implementation.

Hür-İş Federation General Secretary Ali Yeltekin stated that the union has formally notified the Ministries of Public Works and Transport, Finance, and Labor and Social Security regarding the illegal suspension of the agreement. Despite these applications, the union reports that workers' entitlements under the contract remain unpaid.

Yeltekin further alleged that the Labor Department has failed to perform its official duties of inspection and control due to political pressure. The union has requested a meeting with Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu and has set a deadline of Friday, September 25, 2026, to initiate legal strike actions if no response is received.
