Limassol lifeguards rescue two 18-year-olds from strong sea currents
Two 18-year-old swimmers were rescued by lifeguards in Limassol, Cyprus, after being swept into deep water by strong winds and sea currents. The incident occurred around 16:15 on Monday, August 10, 2026, in the LEM 0 lifeguard zone near the Limassol Zoo.
The swimmers, described as being of African descent, were attempting to retrieve a ball that had drifted away from them. The combination of wind and currents pulled them into an area of sudden depth, creating an immediate risk of drowning.
Two lifeguards stationed at the LEM 0 tower responded to the emergency. One lifeguard used a rescue board to reach the pair and begin towing them toward the shore, while a second lifeguard assisted to navigate the difficult sea conditions. Both swimmers were brought safely to land and were found to be in good health, requiring no further medical attention.
