Limassol officials discuss homelessness and housing solutions

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Tina Pavlou, met with Limassol Mayor Giannis Armeutis to discuss addressing homelessness, housing shortages, and support for the elderly. The discussions focused on strengthening social welfare programs and enhancing the municipality's existing services.

A key proposal involves expanding the ‘Schedia’ program to include temporary overnight accommodation for 10–15 individuals. The Mayor highlighted the potential use of the Agios Panteleimon structure, which requires improvements to serve the needs of the homeless.

Deputy Minister Pavlou emphasized that interventions should go beyond providing temporary shelter, aiming instead for the long-term reintegration of individuals by providing them with the necessary skills and resources to regain stability. She noted that Limassol faces significant housing challenges compared to other cities and stressed the importance of cooperation between the state and local government to ensure no citizen is left unsupported.
