Cyprus police officer shoots wife then himself in Limassol incident

On 30 June 2026, a 55‑year‑old police officer in Limassol (Zacaki district) used his service weapon to fire repeatedly at his 46‑year‑old wife inside her car, striking her once in the head and three times in the body. After the attack, the officer turned the gun on himself and died.

The woman was taken to Limassol General Hospital, intubated and later transferred to a private clinic where doctors are fighting to keep her alive. A blood donation appeal was issued because of the severity of her injuries. Witnesses reported seeing the officer clutch the woman by the throat, threatening a passer‑by with the pistol, and refusing to let anyone intervene. He had taken his service weapon at 06:07, logged his duty, told colleagues he would be back in five minutes, and then drove to the meeting point.

Investigators are examining possible motives, including reports of financial problems within the family. The couple had four children (two from previous relationships and two together). Police have secured the scene, collected evidence, and are questioning colleagues, neighbours and the eyewitness who tried to stop the violence.
