Limassol Wine Festival opens for 65th year in Cyprus

The 65th Limassol Wine Festival has officially opened at the Limassol Public Garden and will run until October 4. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Evi Thomou, in the presence of the President of the House of Representatives, ambassadors, and local officials.

During the opening, Minister Thomou noted that the festival has grown from its origins involving major wineries like ETKO, LOEL, KEO, and SODAP to now include over 100 smaller wineries, supported by EU membership. She emphasized the government's commitment to supporting producers and strengthening the primary sector and rural communities.

The Minister also highlighted a program for replanting vineyards following last year's devastating fires, noting that new plantings will serve as fire protection zones. Additionally, she mentioned ongoing efforts to ensure safe and efficient road networks connecting rural communities to urban centers.
