Lime and London police track down cyclist following Fleet Street incident
The City of London Police and e-bike hire company Lime collaborated to identify and penalize a cyclist following an incident on Fleet Street. The rider was observed riding on the wrong side of the road during roadworks and subsequently mounted the pavement to avoid oncoming traffic, weaving through pedestrians.
After a female pedestrian challenged the rider, he directed an offensive hand gesture toward her before fleeing. Following a report from the pedestrian providing the exact time and location, police utilized CCTV footage and timestamped location data from Lime’s internal tracking systems to identify the specific bike and rider.
The cyclist was subsequently brought to a police station, where he accepted a fine for careless cycling and apologized to the pedestrian. Lime has also issued a permanent ban against the individual, preventing him from using their e-bikes or e-scooters in the future. Sergeant Stuart Ford of the City of London Police noted that while the offense was low-level, such cooperation is vital for maintaining public confidence and addressing anti-social behavior.
