Limeira councilman proposes R$ 1.1 million for new mammograph

Councilman Dr. Marcelo Rossi has proposed a R$ 1.1 million mandatory amendment to the 2027 Annual Budget Law to purchase a digital mammograph for Limeira, São Paulo. The investment aims to expand preventive cancer screenings, specifically targeting women aged 50 to 79, as well as women aged 40 to 49 through medical referral.

The initiative follows the breakdown of the municipality's only existing mammograph. Local health officials noted that repairing the current device was deemed unfeasible, leading the city to rely on outsourced services. The new equipment is expected to reduce these third-party costs while increasing the capacity to meet the monthly demand of 600 to 700 exams.

Data from the Santa Casa de Limeira Oncology Center shows 192 new breast cancer cases were recorded between January and August of this year, with approximately 325 patients currently undergoing active treatment.
