Bahia health officials expand regional medical services and infrastructure

Health authorities in Bahia, Brazil, are implementing various measures to strengthen regional medical networks and expand service access. In the southern macro-region, representatives from Itabuna and Ilhéus met with the State Health Secretariat (Sesab) to discuss the integration of the Health Care Network and the implementation of regional management plans.

In Itabuna, the municipal government conducted a primary care outreach program in the rural community of Ribeirão Seco, providing over 200 medical, nursing, and dental consultations, alongside nutritional and psychological support.

In Paulo Afonso, a joint delegation from the Ministry of Health and the State Health Secretariat inspected infrastructure projects. Key announcements include the expansion of ophthalmic surgeries at the Regional Polyclinic starting in September and the progress of the new University Hospital of Paulo Afonso (HUPA), which is expected to be delivered in the first half of next year to increase the supply of medium and high-complexity care.
