Limina tunnel crash disrupts A2 traffic in Reggio Calabria
In the early hours of the night, a violent frontal collision involving two large vehicles occurred inside the Limina tunnel on the A2 highway near Reggio Calabria. The impact ignited a fire and trapped occupants, prompting rescue teams from the Vigili del Fuoco of Siderno and Polistena to cut through the wreckage with hydraulic tools. Two people were extracted, a woman in serious condition and a driver, and were taken to hospitals in Locri, Polistena and Reggio Calabria. The tunnel and the adjoining stretch of the A2 remained closed to traffic until after 03:00 for safety checks and cleanup.
The incident also caused significant traffic slow‑downs on the final segment of the A2 between the Porto interchange and the connection to the Reggio Calabria ring road. Police officers and traffic‑control personnel secured the area, managed vehicle flow and advised drivers to exercise caution while the scene was cleared.
