Limpopo man sentenced to life for raping daughter

A 42-year-old man from the Zaaiplaas area in Limpopo has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Groblersdal Regional Court for the repeated rape of his daughter. The abuse, which began in 2022, resulted in the victim becoming pregnant and giving birth to a baby girl in March 2023.

Court proceedings revealed that the accused groomed the teenager and used threats of violence to maintain silence, including telling the victim he would kill her and her mother if the assaults were exposed. He also attempted to manipulate the victim into blaming another individual for the pregnancy.

The abuse was discovered after the victim fled her home to escape further attacks. After staying away for several days, she contacted family members to disclose the sexual assault. The state successfully argued that the gravity of the crime and the violation of parental trust warranted a life sentence.
