Lin Shaye saved Insidious 6 from Sony cancellation

Actress Lin Shaye revealed that the upcoming film ‘Insidious 6’ (also referred to as ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’) was nearly canceled by Sony Pictures. Following a change in studio leadership, the project was removed from the release calendar.

Shaye intervened by writing a letter to Tom Rothman, CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, to advocate for the continuation of the franchise. Rothman subsequently greenlit the feature. Shaye expressed that while she did not single-handedly create the film, she felt it was important to speak up for the project.

The latest installment in the franchise, ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ (referred to in some reports as ‘Insidious: Now Among Us’), has seen significant commercial success. It earned US$ 25.3 million during its opening weekend in the United States and reached a global opening of US$ 60.5 million across 64 markets. The film was produced on an $18 million budget, contributing to the franchise's total global earnings of over US$ 800 million.
