Lina Ajoy Rojas assumes leadership of Central American Integration System

Costa Rican diplomat Lina Ajoy Rojas has assumed the role of Secretary General of the Central American Integration System (SICA). Serving a term through 2030, Ajoy is the first Costa Rican to hold this position.

Her appointment follows a period of institutional vacancy and tension within the organization. The position had been vacant since November 2023, following the resignation of Nicaragua’s Werner Vargas. Ajoy’s primary objectives include restoring high-level political dialogue, rebuilding consensus among member states, and revitalizing trust in the regional system.

Ajoy brings 27 years of diplomatic experience to the role, having previously served as Costa Rica’s ambassador to SICA and Belize, as well as in El Salvador and Canada.
