Linares Archaeological Museum hosts Cástulo water heritage exhibition

The Archaeological Museum of Linares has launched the exhibition ‘La huella del agua: arquitectura y paisaje’ (The Water Footprint: Architecture and Landscape), which will run until May 2027. The exhibition explores the hydraulic heritage of the ancient city of Cástulo by creating a dialogue between archaeology and contemporary creation.

The display combines historical architectures and archaeological objects—such as lead pipes, hydrias, and ritual fountains—with contemporary installations, graphic documents, and artistic works. A key component includes photogrammetric reconstructions of three specific cisterns: ‘las ostras’, ‘las columnas’, and ‘el pozo’.

Drawing from the graphic archives of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage, the exhibition documents the changing landscape of the Cástulo archaeological site through various photographic studies spanning from 1992 to 2023. The initiative aims to show how water influenced urban organization, construction locations, and the transformation of the territory throughout different eras.
