Lincoln Gakiya considered for Public Security Ministry in Lula administration
Lincoln Gakiya, a prosecutor from the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MPSP), is being considered to lead a potential Ministry of Public Security in President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's fourth term, beginning in 2027.
Gakiya is well-known for his work with the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) and his efforts against the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). While he has not received an official invitation, he confirmed in an interview that he would accept the position if called upon.
The potential ministry could be established as early as this year or 2025, though full operations might not begin until 2027. Gakiya has advocated for greater integration between state and federal security forces to combat organized crime, though he maintains that criminal factions should be treated as mafias rather than terrorist organizations.
