Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Nanobubble Cleanup Under Trump

The Trump administration contracted Ohio‑based Greenwater Services to install a $1.7 million ozone nanobubbler system in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The technology claims to inject 500 million microscopic bubbles per teaspoon of water, oxidizing algae, bacteria and chemicals. Four temporary mobile units were placed in the pool on June 6, producing visible white plumes and reportedly clearing the water. Two days later the National Park Service ordered the equipment removed, and algae later re‑appeared.

Greenwater Services, which received a no‑bid contract, has faced political scrutiny after campaign‑donation links to the president’s campaign were revealed. The company hired a crisis‑communications firm and emphasized that it has no political affiliation. Experts note that the nanobubbler is a new, five‑year‑old technology that has never been used on a pool of this size, and the Department of the Interior has not set a timeline for the extensive pipe repairs needed for long‑term operation.
