Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Repairs Remain Contested as Administration Sticks with Contractor

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced that the Trump administration will not seek new bids to complete repairs on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, opting to retain the contractor that performed the initial $15 million renovation. Congressional Democrats have launched investigations into the no‑bid contracts awarded to Ohio‑based Green Water Solutions ($1.7 million) for water purification and Virginia‑based Atlantic Industrial Coatings ($14.7 million) for repainting and waterproofing. More than half a dozen arrests have been made, including former Olympian David Hearn, who was indicted on a felony property‑destruction charge for allegedly tearing up the new sealant. The pool was drained for the repairs and remained closed during the July 4 festivities for safety reasons. Media scrutiny intensified after a heated CNN interview with Burgum, where reporters questioned the vandalism narrative and the quality of the workmanship.
