Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Treated with Ozone Nanobubbles to Halt Algal Bloom

After a renovation left the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool overrun by green algae, officials turned to ozone nanobubble technology to clean the water. Nanobubbles are ultrafine gas‑filled bubbles—about 100 nanometres in diameter—that can remain dissolved for hours, increasing gas solubility and providing a large surface area for environmental cleaning.

The system injects ozone‑rich nanobubbles into the pool, which suppress algae growth without the need for traditional detergents. The approach demonstrates a novel, environmentally friendly water‑treatment method being applied to a high‑profile national monument ahead of the United States’ 250th‑anniversary celebrations.
