Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool undergoes repairs amid legal disputes

Repairs are underway at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to fix a damaged liner. The work follows a period of controversy regarding the condition of the landmark and previous allegations of vandalism.

While the National Park Service and contractors are working to repair areas damaged by vandals and complete a beautification effort, the Interior Department has faced scrutiny over the quality of the renovation. The pool remains drained during the process.

Concurrently, legal proceedings continue regarding the alleged vandalism. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has requested that a judge dismiss felony charges against a 67-year-old former Olympian, David Hearn, but only on the condition that the government retains the ability to re-indict him if new evidence emerges. Hearn’s legal team has characterized the pursuit of the case as “prosecutorial harassment.” A hearing is scheduled for next month to determine if the Department of Justice can leave the door open for future prosecution.
