Lincoln-Way East High School placed on IHSA probation
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has placed Lincoln-Way East High School on probation through the 2026-27 school year following investigations into two alleged racial harassment incidents.
The first incident involved students at a football game against Homewood-Flossmoor High School, where video captured students taunting fans with monkey sounds and gestures. The students involved voluntarily withdrew from the school rather than face expulsion.
The second incident involved allegations of racial taunting by a coach and cross-country team members during a meet in Western Springs. While Homewood-Flossmoor officials provided statements describing racist comments and gestures, the IHSA stated it was unable to corroborate malicious language during that specific event. The school district noted that it has since hired a racial bias training consultant.
The IHSA probation serves as a warning that future violations could lead to more severe sanctions. The association noted that the incidents may be subject to future litigation.
