Linde targets hydrogen truck expansion and refueling stations in Taiwan

Linde (Union Linde) is advancing its hydrogen energy strategy in Taiwan, focusing on commercial vehicles and refueling infrastructure to expand its industrial gas business. The company aims to introduce 10 to 30 hydrogen trucks over the next three to five years and targets the establishment of approximately three hydrogen refueling stations by 2030.

Currently, the high cost of hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks—estimated at 30 million TWD per unit—remains a significant barrier compared to diesel or electric alternatives. To mitigate this, Linde is exploring a 'Hydrogen as a Service' (HaaS) model to lower initial capital expenditures for transport companies. The company also plans to transition from importing fully assembled vehicles to local assembly in Taiwan, with the first batch of European hydrogen heavy vehicles expected by 2028.

In addition to hydrogen transport, Linde is promoting oxy-fuel combustion technology to assist industrial decarbonization. This technology can potentially increase production capacity by over 50% and reduce fuel consumption by up to 50%.
