Lindenhurst motorist arrested in fatal hit-and-run

Daniel Gomez, 65, was arrested in Brentwood following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Lindenhurst, Long Island. According to Suffolk County police, Gomez allegedly struck 56-year-old Erik Ermanovics with a 2012 Honda Accord as Ermanovics attempted to cross Sunrise Highway at North Indiana Avenue just before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities stated that instead of stopping to assist the victim, Gomez fled the scene. Ermanovics was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Following an investigation, detectives located and arrested Gomez at his home later that day. He is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. Gomez is scheduled for arraignment in Central Islip court on Wednesday.
