Lazzura wins $2 million The Invitation at Randwick

The Chris Waller-trained mare Lazzura secured victory in the Group 2 $2 million The Invitation (1400m) at Randwick. Entering the race as the $2.70 favourite, the five-year-old Snitzel mare overcame a wide run from gate 10 to defeat Infancy by a half-length, with Verona Rose finishing third.

The win marks Lazzura’s eighth victory from 20 starts, pushing her career earnings beyond $3.1 million. Following the performance, speculation has grown regarding a potential appearance in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington next weekend.

The event was a successful day for several connections. Jockey Tommy Berry secured a treble, and trainer Chris Waller recorded five winners. Additionally, Berry and the Surace family team won the listed Brian Crowley Stakes earlier in the day with the filly Revolina.
