Lindian Resources secures heavy rare earth feedstock in Kazakhstan
Lindian Resources has secured exclusive access to a 13,389-tonne heavy rare earth (HREE) stockpile in Kazakhstan. Through a stockpile access and option agreement, the company aims to use this material as feedstock for its recently acquired Summit Atom Rare Earth Company (SARECO) processing facility in Stepnogorsk.
The Aktau stockpile contains dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium. Of the initial parcel, 7,549 tonnes are prepared for transport, while the remainder is undergoing drying. The agreement also grants Lindian exclusive rights to evaluate an additional 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes of material without upfront cash consideration.
This strategic move is intended to complement Lindian’s Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi, which focuses on neodymium and praseodymium. By integrating the Kazakh HREE material, the company seeks to expand its product suite to include elements essential for high-powered magnets used in electric vehicles, defense technologies, and medical equipment. SARECO was originally established as a joint venture between Kazatomprom and Sumitomo Corporation to recover rare earth elements from uranium-derived residues.
