Lindsay Clancy defense seeks investigation of holdout juror

Following a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy murder case, defense attorneys have filed motions seeking a judicial investigation into the conduct of the sole holdout juror, Michael Desronvil. The mistrial was declared on September 4 after the jury reached an 11-1 deadlock. While eleven jurors favored a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity—citing Clancy’s postpartum psychosis—Desronvil maintained his position for conviction.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has requested that Judge William Sullivan investigate whether Desronvil improperly used a cellphone during deliberations, which is prohibited in Massachusetts. The motion also seeks to examine Desronvil’s truthfulness regarding his jury selection questionnaire and requests an investigation into his background, including potential domestic violence records.

In a separate motion, attorney Martin Weinberg has asked the court to dismiss the criminal charges entirely rather than proceeding to a new trial, arguing that the mistrial should not have been declared. Desronvil, through his attorney Edward Paltzik, has defended his decision, stating he had no doubts about the evidence presented. Clancy remains held at Tewksbury State Hospital pending further legal developments.
