Lindsay Clancy murder trial ends in mistrial after jury deadlock

A judge in Massachusetts has declared a mistrial in the high-profile murder case of Lindsay Clancy, a 36-year-old former nurse accused of killing her three children in January 2023. The decision followed seven days of jury deliberations during which the twelve-person panel failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

Clancy admitted to the deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Her defense argued she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings. Reports indicate the jury was split 11 to 1, with a single holdout juror refusing to follow instructions regarding reasonable doubt.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz stated that prosecutors will decide shortly whether to seek a new trial. Clancy remains in a psychiatric institution pending further legal proceedings.
