Lindsay Clancy murder trial ends in mistrial after jury deadlock
A judge in Plymouth, Massachusetts, has declared a mistrial in the high-profile case of Lindsay Clancy, a former nurse accused of strangling her three children in January 2023. After seven days of deliberations and nearly 40 hours of discussion, the 12-person jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict, reporting a deadlock for the third time.
The defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, argued that Clancy was not criminally responsible due to severe postpartum psychosis. Reddington alleged that the jury was split 11-1, with a single juror preventing an acquittal. The prosecution maintained that Clancy acted with premeditation and full awareness of her actions.
Clancy, who admitted to the killings but cited mental illness, remains in a state psychiatric facility. The decision to declare a mistrial does not result in an acquittal; the three murder charges remain active. District Attorney Timothy Cruz must now decide whether to seek a retrial, negotiate a plea agreement, or drop the charges. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for September 29, 2026.
