American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn made a public appearance at the US Open in New York, marking a significant milestone in her recovery following a devastating crash at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Vonn, 41, attended the tournament in an olive-green dress, showing visible signs of her rehabilitation, including surgical scars and medical tape on her left leg.

The accident on February 8, during the women’s downhill event, resulted in a complex tibia fracture that required multiple surgeries and nearly led to the amputation of her leg. Vonn revealed in an interview with TNT Sports that she still faces a long road to recovery, including a planned ACL surgery potentially in November or winter. She noted that after the ACL procedure, she anticipates another nine months of rehabilitation.

While Vonn has expressed gratitude for her progress and her ability to walk unassisted again, she remains undecided regarding her professional future, stating she may retire or choose to race again. Her recovery process has involved transitioning from a wheelchair to crutches and eventually walking independently over several months.
