Lindsey Vonn faces new surgery as recovery from multiple leg injuries continues

Four-time Olympic gold‑medalist Lindsey Vonn, 41, told People magazine that walking remains difficult after a series of severe injuries. She suffered a complex fracture of her left tibia, a broken right ankle and, earlier, a torn left knee ligament. Months in a wheelchair and on crutches gave way to her first independent steps after about three and a half months, a moment she described as emotionally intense.

Vonn said her left leg is healing, but the right ankle remains un‑healed and painful. Metal plates implanted in the left leg will need to be removed in an upcoming operation, extending her rehabilitation. While she has resumed gym training, she has not decided whether to return to professional skiing, pending full recovery.

The former champion continues intensive physical therapy and remains uncertain about a competitive comeback.
