Lindsey Vonn named to U.S. Ski A-Team amid injury recovery

U.S. Ski & Snowboard has officially named 41-year-old alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn to the national A-Team for the 2026-27 season. The decision comes as Vonn continues to recover from a severe injury sustained during the Olympic downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo in February 2026. The crash resulted in a complex fracture of her left tibia and a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

While her inclusion in the elite roster alongside athletes like Mikaela Shiffrin signals that a comeback remains a possibility, a return to competition is not imminent. Vonn is scheduled for another surgery in November to remove metal implants and reconstruct her ACL. Medical experts suggest that a full recovery and return to racing would likely not occur until the 2027-28 season at the earliest. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has noted that Vonn would be eligible for wildcards should she decide to compete.

Vonn, an 84-time World Cup winner and three-time Olympic medalist, has expressed that while she is not ready to make a final decision on retirement, she does not want to close the door on competition.
