Line Renaud considers adopting Claude Chirac
French singer and actress Line Renaud, 98, has expressed her desire to adopt Claude Chirac, 63, the daughter of former French President Jacques Chirac and the late Bernadette Chirac. During an appearance on the France Musique podcast ‘Tour de chant’, Renaud stated that the two women are currently discussing the possibility of making the adoption a reality.
Renaud, who has maintained a close relationship with the Chirac family for decades, described the bond by saying, ‘Claude, she is my daughter.’ She noted that following the death of Bernadette Chirac in June, the prospect of formalizing their relationship has become a significant topic of conversation. Renaud expressed that it would bring her ‘great happiness’ to become Claude’s mother now that she no longer has her biological parents.
Legal experts note that under French law, this would likely take the form of a ‘simple adoption’ (adoption simple), which allows for the adoption of an adult without severing ties to the original family. A key legal requirement is a 15-year age difference between the parties, a condition that is met in this instance.
