LINE to make mute message feature a paid LYP Premium benefit

LINE Yahoo has announced that the ‘mute message’ feature on the LINE messaging app will transition from a free experimental service to a paid benefit. The feature, which allows users to send messages without triggering notification sounds or vibrations on the recipient's device, will no longer be available through ‘LINE Lab’ after late August 2026.

To continue using the mute function, users will need to subscribe to the LYP Premium service. Specifically, it will be included in the LYP Premium Standard Plan (starting at 508 yen per month via web) and the LYP Premium with Netflix plan.

The decision has drawn mixed reactions from users on social media. While many have expressed appreciation for the utility of the feature during late-night or work hours, others have criticized the move, questioning whether the feature justifies a paid subscription or comparing the policy to other social media platforms that offer similar functionalities for free.
