Lineage claims 101.8% food waste removal at Boyle Heights warehouse

Lineage, a storage company, claims to have removed 101.8% of the bulk food waste from the unburned portion of its Boyle Heights warehouse following a June 17 fire. The company arrived at this figure by weighing all material removed since July 7, noting that the total includes debris and water. Despite this claim, Lineage acknowledges that food waste may still remain inside the facility.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has expressed skepticism regarding the company's progress, stating, “We cannot take them at their word.” City personnel reported finding remaining food waste during an inspection on Thursday. The cleanup follows a fire that left the surrounding neighborhood dealing with odors and pests.

There is a dispute regarding cleanup deadlines. While the city cited an August 14 deadline, Lineage maintains that its deadline under South Coast Air Quality Management District orders was August 20, citing delays in the building being handed over by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
