Lineage Logistics commits $100 million cleanup of fire‑damaged Boyle Heights warehouse

A fire that broke out on June 17 at the 500,000‑square‑foot Lineage Logistics warehouse on 1400 S. Los Palos St. in Boyle Heights left millions of pounds of rotting meat and other organic waste, prompting more than 4,000 odor complaints and a public‑health crisis. The South Coast Air Quality Management District and Los Angeles County health officials have issued dozens of violation notices and ordered extensive remediation measures, including weekly removal of at least 8.8 million pounds of waste, installation of odor‑neutralizing misting systems, and vector‑control actions.

Lineage Logistics announced it will spend $80‑100 million to complete the cleanup, saying about 80 % of the food waste has already been removed and that bulk removal will be finished next week. Mayor Karen Bass and community group East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice have urged stronger, permanent abatement orders to protect residents’ health. Ongoing inspections will verify compliance with the agency’s directives.
