Lineage Logistics faces citations over odor from Boyle Heights food warehouse cleanup

Lineage Logistics' fire‑damaged cold‑storage facility in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, has generated more than 720 odor complaints from nearby residents. The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued five violations under public nuisance rules, with penalties ranging from $1,000 to $75,000 per day.

The company is removing about half of the 85,000 tons of decomposing food, using sealed, deodorized containers and additional odor‑control measures such as carbon filters and plastic sheeting. Mayor Karen Bass set a 45‑day deadline for completion, while Lineage’s chief operating officer Jeff Rivera said demolition and cleaning should finish soon. Residents continue to report health impacts, including nausea, difficulty breathing, and pest infestations, as the cleanup proceeds.
