Lineage Logistics faces lawsuit and cleanup scrutiny after Boyle Heights fire

Lineage Logistics has admitted that its previous claims of having removed ‘104%’ of food waste from its burned Boyle Heights warehouse were misleading. The company explained that the figure resulted from comparing the weight of waste removed against initial estimates of total food weight at the time of the fire. Moving forward, the company stated it will only report 100% completion once food waste removal is fully finished.

The cleanup timeline has been pushed back to August 30, approximately one week behind the deadline set by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. This delay may result in fines for the company.

Separately, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has designated a lawsuit against Lineage Logistics as ‘complex’. The lawsuit, filed by residents of Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, Commerce, and Montebello, alleges that a June 17 fire and subsequent chemical releases caused health issues and rendered homes uninhabitable due to smoke, ash, and vermin. The case has been assigned to Judge Bruce G. Iwasaki.
