Lineage Logistics warehouse cleanup faces delays and mounting violations

The cleanup of a fire-damaged Lineage Logistics warehouse in Boyle Heights is facing significant delays and mounting regulatory penalties. Despite previous claims by the company regarding the removal of food waste, inspectors from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) found that more rotting food remains in the facility than originally estimated.

Local residents have endured nearly two and a half months of foul odors and severe fly infestations caused by the decaying organic matter. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued over 30 citations related to fly breeding and unsanitary conditions, resulting in approximately $60,000 in penalties. Additionally, the AQMD has issued 38 violations that could lead to tens of thousands of dollars in further fines.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that the company has failed to meet its responsibilities and that officials cannot rely solely on the company’s reports. While crews continue to clear the site, investigations by the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Department of Building and Safety into the original fire remain ongoing.
