LineageOS brings Android 16 support to Samsung Galaxy S22 series

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series has received a software lifeline through the official adaptation of LineageOS 23. While Samsung has indicated that One UI 8 will be the final major update for the S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra, the open-source community is providing an alternative path for longevity.

LineageOS 23 builds are now available for the entire S22 lineup, allowing users to experience Android 16. This provides a more streamlined, AOSP-style interface compared to Samsung’s One UI, which may appeal to users seeking a cleaner experience or those wishing to avoid integrated AI features. Furthermore, there is potential for future updates based on Android 17 to follow the official Google release, effectively extending the functional lifespan of the hardware beyond Samsung’s official support window.
