Linguistics and cultural education updates in Mexico and Spain

Linguist Concepción Company Company, a member of El Colegio Nacional, delivered a lecture titled ‘Historicity II. Metaphors and creativity in the Spanish language.’ During her presentation, she argued that absolute creativity does not exist, as it is conditioned by cultural molds and historical changes that shape human perception. She described creativity as the ability to re-elaborate grammatical material for new concepts, noting that while humans possess the unique capacity for free syntax, linguistic expression remains bound by social constraints and routines.

In Spain, the Escola Municipal de Mallorquí in Manacor is expanding its educational offerings for the 2026-2027 academic year due to rising demand. The school reported that the previous year reached 1,152 students in Catalan levels and traditional dance, with a total of 3,546 students participating in various workshops. The upcoming curriculum will include a new A2 Catalan level in the morning, additional ballet groups, and cultural activities commemorating the centenaries of writer Blai Bonet and poet Joan Alcover.
