Linhares man dies after falling into father's grave

A man approximately 40 years old died on Wednesday afternoon after falling into his father's grave at the São José Municipal Cemetery in Linhares, Espírito Santo. The accident occurred when the man sat on the structure of the tomb, which collapsed under his weight.

The victim had been at the cemetery to attend the funeral of an acquaintance. Following the service, he went to visit his father's burial site. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise before realizing the man had fallen into the cavity. Although SAMU and Fire Department teams were dispatched to the scene, the man was already deceased upon their arrival.

The Linhares City Hall issued a statement expressing solidarity with the family and noted that while the municipality is responsible for cleaning and maintaining common areas, the conservation and repair of individual tomb structures are the responsibility of the families. The São José Municipal Cemetery is the largest in the city, containing 17,921 burials.
