Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique reports $82 million profit amid restructuring
Mozambique's flag carrier Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) posted a net profit of about 5.3 billion Meticais (roughly US$82 million) for the 2025 fiscal year, reversing a loss of US$61 million recorded in 2024. The results showed a 13% reduction in liabilities, a 20% cut in operating costs, a 37% rise in assets and the separation of more than 130 employees as part of a broader recovery plan.
Despite the improvement, LAM continues to grapple with significant challenges. A parliamentary inspection cited a remaining financial pass‑through of around US$400 million, a fleet of only six largely leased aircraft, and operational constraints such as reduced baggage capacity when aircraft are substituted. Deputies highlighted the need for further accountability and structural reforms to ensure the airline’s long‑term sustainability.
