Link Road Forest developer rejects sale despite national park petition

The developer of the proposed Eden Estates housing project has confirmed that the Link Road Forest site is not for sale, following a petition signed by more than 10,450 people urging the state government to protect the land. The 574-hectare bushland, located in Newcastle's western suburbs, is currently earmarked for the construction of approximately 4,200 homes.

NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe stated that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) typically acquires land from willing sellers and noted that the property is not currently on offer. She added that if the land were to become available, the NPWS would conduct an assessment regarding its conservation value and management costs.

A spokesperson for Eden Estates expressed an aspiration for a balanced outcome involving housing, public recreation, and environmental conservation, but maintained that the site is not being considered for sale at this time.
