LINKA executes Peru’s first documented import using stablecoins

The Peruvian fintech company LINKA has completed the country’s first documented import operation paid using stablecoins. This transaction marks a shift in the use of digital assets from speculative investment toward functional infrastructure for international trade.

In this model, stablecoins are used to transfer value for goods while maintaining all standard commercial documentation, including commercial invoices, transport documents, customs declarations, and tax obligations. The technology serves as the financial layer for moving funds rather than replacing the legal import process. LINKA performs client identification and verifies all commercial documentation, such as invoices and provider details, before processing the conversion and transfer of funds.

This method offers potential advantages over traditional banking systems, such as faster settlement times and lower costs by avoiding the fees and delays associated with correspondent banking. Unlike volatile cryptocurrencies, stablecoins are designed to maintain a fixed value, typically pegged to the US dollar, making them more suitable for commercial settlements and remittances.
