LinkedIn B2B sales trends show shift from volume to targeted outreach

New benchmark data for 2026 indicates a shift in B2B sales strategies on LinkedIn, moving away from high-volume outreach toward highly targeted messaging. Analysis from Expandi, covering over 13 million connection requests and 6.7 million outbound messages, shows a platform-wide average reply rate of 10.4% for messages and 3.0% for connection notes.

In contrast, data from the AI outbound platform Obert shows significantly higher reply rates, averaging 24%. This discrepancy is attributed to the use of AI agents to screen leads against ideal customer profiles, ensuring messages are only sent to highly relevant prospects.

Several factors are driving this transition from volume to precision, including tightened LinkedIn platform limits on daily connection requests, increased buyer resistance to generic outreach, and the rising costs of outbound technology stacks.
