LinkedIn report: 83% of Indian Gen Z hesitant to network
A report from LinkedIn reveals that 83% of Gen Z professionals in India are hesitant to engage in professional networking, despite recognizing its importance. This hesitation may result in a significant hiring disadvantage, as data shows applicants with internal connections are approximately 8.5 times more likely to be hired than those without them.
Key barriers to networking include a fear of being judged (44%), concerns about bothering others (39%), and fears of sounding inauthentic (37%). While 79% of respondents understand the value of professional relationships, 52% do not know how to begin building them, and 53% struggle to convert contacts into meaningful connections. Additionally, 59% of Gen Z respondents reported that they have not received clear guidance on how to develop these professional ties.
The research highlights a generational gap in willingness to assist; while Gen Z expresses hesitation in reaching out, 92% of Millennials and 95% of Gen X professionals stated they would be willing to help someone at the start of their career.
