LinkedIn report shows green-skilled workers hired at 1.5x the average rate

LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report 2026 reveals that workers possessing green skills, such as carbon accounting, energy management, and waste reduction, are being hired at a rate 52.7% higher than the general workforce. This equates to approximately 1.5 times the hiring rate of the wider labor market.

The report highlights a significant supply-demand imbalance. While green hiring grew by 25% year-on-year, the share of green talent in the workforce increased by only 13%. Consequently, demand for these skills is rising roughly twice as fast as the available talent pool across all examined industries.

Most green-related hiring is currently occurring within standard functional roles—such as finance, operations, and technology—rather than being confined to dedicated sustainability teams. The findings are based on anonymized and aggregated data from LinkedIn’s one billion members, covering the period from January 2021 to July 2026.
