LinkedIn report shows rising job‑scam awareness in India, Gen Z remains most vulnerable
A LinkedIn study of Indian professionals reveals that 82% now pause to verify a job’s legitimacy before applying, and 53% say they are more likely to question postings than a year ago. Despite this heightened vigilance, nearly half of Gen Z respondents (49%) admit they have come close to falling for a scam, and 54% say they ignore warning signs when an opportunity feels urgent.
The early stages of a job search are identified as the riskiest moments, with about one‑in‑five professionals most concerned while browsing listings and a similar share uneasy about initial recruiter outreach. Scammers exploit this by moving 90% of fraudulent conversations to personal messaging apps, where verification is harder.
LinkedIn is responding with a three‑layer defence: proactive detection of fake accounts and postings, verification signals for companies and recruiters, and protective measures such as mandatory ID checks for high‑risk job posters and enhanced spam filtering.
