US Professionals Turning to LinkedIn for Romantic Connections

A recent survey of more than 1,000 U.S. workers found that one in eight respondents had entered a romantic relationship that began through LinkedIn. The study, conducted by resume platform Zety and reported by SFGATE, suggests some professionals are using the professional networking site as an alternative to traditional dating apps, which are perceived as less trustworthy. Respondents cited LinkedIn’s real‑name profiles, employer information and professional history as factors that make it easier to verify identities. Nearly half of those surveyed said LinkedIn profiles feel more trustworthy than dating‑app profiles, and about 20 % used LinkedIn to research a potential partner before deciding to pursue a relationship. However, two‑thirds of participants worried that romantic interactions on the platform could damage their professional reputation, and three‑quarters believed LinkedIn should remain focused on business networking. Younger users—Millennials and Gen Z—were more likely to view LinkedIn as useful for dating than older respondents. Career experts cautioned that LinkedIn was not designed for romance and that unsolicited romantic messages could be perceived as inappropriate.
