Linksy open-source tool enables local device connectivity
Linksy is a new free and open-source application designed to facilitate communication between devices on a local network without the need for internet connections, cloud storage, or user accounts. Inspired by tools such as KDE Connect and GSConnect, the application allows Linux computers, Android phones, and tablets to interact directly using QUIC and TLS 1.3 encryption.
Key features include file and folder transfers with support for resuming interrupted tasks, clipboard synchronization, and remote terminal access. The tool also offers advanced capabilities such as turning an Android device into a 1080p 60 FPS webcam or microphone, remote desktop control, and the ability to use a mobile device as a secondary display.
Security is managed through mutual authentication via QR codes or six-digit verification codes. While primarily a local tool, it supports online reconnection for previously paired devices through a relay server that forwards only encrypted data without storing content. Automatic clipboard synchronization is currently supported in KDE Plasma and wlroots-based environments, though limitations exist for GNOME users.
