Linnan Liu integrates color and sound into cinematic storytelling
Linnan Liu is a film colorist and sound designer who integrates visual and auditory elements into the early stages of storytelling. Rather than treating color grading and sound design as final polish, Liu works with directors and cinematographers during the planning phases to develop Look-Up Tables (LUTs) that establish a project's visual language before filming begins.
A notable example of this approach is Liu’s work on the ReelShort vertical series ‘Tempting the Mafia Twins’. Collaborating with cinematographer Yiran Chen, Liu developed a cinematic color palette designed to reflect the emotional tone of the script and maintain visual consistency throughout production. The series has garnered over 37 million views.
Liu’s professional practice emphasizes that technical choices in color and sound are essential tools for shaping atmosphere, emotion, and the audience's connection to characters.
