Linux and Red Hat security updates expose record 1,888 vulnerabilities
A June security bulletin reported a record 1,888 vulnerabilities disclosed, including 324 in the Linux kernel and 728 in the Chromium browser project. One vulnerability, CVE‑2026‑11645, is actively exploited to achieve remote code execution via the V8 JavaScript engine. Other high‑profile bugs highlighted were a Linux kernel privilege escalation (CVE‑2026‑46243), an Apache ActiveMQ remote code execution (CVE‑2026‑42588), and several client‑side issues in Nextcloud, Squid and ImageMagick.
Red Hat also issued three errata for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, delivering an Important‑rated update for the perl‑IO‑Compress package and a Moderate‑rated update for libxslt. The patches apply to RHEL 7 Extended Lifecycle Support and multiple RHEL 8 streams, and administrators are urged to apply them promptly to mitigate the identified risks.
